Updated: 2022-05-04 15:53:04

Athlete Wang Zhiyi from Jingzhou beat Japan to clinch the gold medal in the women's singles final at the 2022 Asian Badminton Championships on May 1.

The women's singles final at the Asian Championships was a twisty affair. Facing last year's world champion Yamaguchi Akane, Wang Zhiyi dared not relax for a moment. The opponent's tactics were changeable and Wang Zhiyi fought against her opponent at every minute. In the end, she reversed Japanese champion Yamaguchi Akane by 2-1 and won the first gold medal of the championship for China. This is also the time for national badminton women's singles to top the Asian Championships again after six years. Wang Zhiyi updated her Weibo after the game, writing: "Effort is a synonym for miracle."

Wang has flown from the Philippines to Thailand to prepare for the competition, where she will compete in the 2022 Uber Cup World Badminton Team Championships in Bangkok on May 8.

Jingzhou is the place where Wang Zhiyi started her badminton career. As a girl born in the 00s, Wang Zhiyi is also a rising badminton star after Ji Xinpeng and Chen Long. After many years away, Wang Zhiyi rarely goes home. She has always been caring about her hometown and her family.
