Updated: 2022-07-01 11:47:34

July 1 marked the 10th anniversary of the opening of Wuhan-Yichang Railway.

As long as 292 kilometers in total, the railway connects Wuhan, Hanchuan, Tianmen, Xiantao, Qianjiang, Jingzhou, Zhijiang and Yichang, putting an end to the history of no railway in the hinterland of Jianghan Plain. In 2012, the railway was opened to traffic, filling the gap of Jingzhou’s railway transportation network and bringing Jingzhou into the national "four vertical and four horizontal" backbone railway network.

According to the statistical bulletin on Jingzhou’s economic and social development, the city’s GDP was RMB 119.602 billion in the year when the railway was opened to traffic, and RMB 271.552 billion in 2021, an increase of 1.7 times. In the past 10 years, the daily average number of passengers transported at Jingzhou Station of the railway has jumped from 6,000 at the beginning to 17,000, with the highest annual passenger throughput of nearly 6 million and a daily average of more than 130 trains stopping over at the station. Jingbei Area, where Jingzhou Station of the railway is located, has developed from a new business card of the city to an urban reception room. In the past 10 years, the traffic of scenic spots in Jingzhou has increased sharply, and the natural landscape, history and culture of the ancient city are finding their way into the whole country, thanks to the opening of the railway.

It is reported that the Jingzhou-Jingmen high-speed railway under construction will be connected to Jingzhou Station in the future. At that time, Jingzhou will usher in a high-speed railway with a speed of 350 kilometers per hour, which will accelerate its integration into the national high-speed rail network.
