According to a source from a recent meeting held among local agriculture and rural affairs directors, in the first half of the year, the city's agriculture and rural economy has made steady progress, laying a solid foundation for the realization of the annual development goals set for the whole year.

In terms of production, summer grain and summer oil reaped a bumper harvest. The total output of wheat is expected to reach 565,000 tons, and the total output of rapeseed is expected to reach 584,400 tons. The purchase prices of rapeseed and wheat are both higher than those of last year. The quantity of vegetable basket products is sufficient and their prices are stable. As of the end of June, the city's vegetable output was 1.4203 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 6.45%. The output of aquatic products was 485,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 2.98%. The city slaughtered 1.9984 million live pigs, a year-on-year increase of 18.1%, and the production capacity of live pigs has returned to 103.7% in 2017.

In the processing industry, from January to June, there were 520 agricultural product processing enterprises above the designated size in Jingzhou, an increase of 28 over that at the end of last year. In the first quarter, the city's total output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery was 13.388 billion, a year-on-year increase of 7.1%, higher than the province's average growth rate. The processing output value of the agricultural products enterprises above the designated size was 30.813 billion, a year-on-year increase of 20.92%, and 25.68% of the annual task was completed. The processing output value of the agricultural products enterprises above the designated size accounted for 34.21% of the above-standard industrial output value. The main business income of the agricultural product processing enterprises above the designated size was 26.543 billion, a year-on-year increase of 12.2%. The total profit was 1.424 billion, a year-on-year increase of 36.1%; the total tax was 845 million, a year-on-year increase of 56.2%.

In terms of industrialization development, Jingzhou has vigorously implemented the "Three-Year Action for the Development of Agricultural Products Processing Industry", actively docked with ten provincial key industrial chains, and improved the work system of four municipal key agricultural industrial chains. The agricultural and rural sector has focused on the breakthrough development of deep processing of agricultural products, further strengthened the investment promotion of the industrial chain and the cultivation of leading enterprises, docked with 12 projects such as the pre-made dishes of Sinodiet International Institutional Catering Industry Group and the processing industry chain of Chia Tai Aquatic Products, and accelerated the progress of the projects. Currently, there are 31 agricultural product processing projects under construction in Jingzhou, with a total investment of 6.4 billion.
