Jingzhou: six across-river passages lead integrated development of "one river and two banks"
Updated: 2022-10-19 12:34:10

Jingzhou is the city with the longest runoff mileage in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, with a runoff mileage of 483 kilometers. In the past ten years, Jingzhou has focused on the construction of across-river bridges in an all-round way. A number of bridges that span from the north and south of the Yangtze River have been built successively, connecting the past, present and future of Jingzhou and opening up the road of high-quality development of the city.

At present, Hualu Hengsheng Jingzhou Project, located in Jiangling New Energy and New Materials Industry Base, is well underway. With a total investment of RMB46 billion, the Project will build a high-end industrial chain of new chemical materials. In 2019, Jingzhou Yangtze River Highway-Railway Bridge, the first of its kind in Jingzhou, was opened to traffic. Haolebaoji-Ji'an Railway, a major channel for "transporting coal from north to south" which meets with the golden waterway of the Yangtze River in Jiangling, has not only given birth to a 100-billion-level new energy and new materials industrial park, but also further improved the three-dimensional transportation network of Jiangling county and highlighted its geographical advantages.

In 2019, Shishou Yangtze River Bridge and Honghu-Jiayu Yangtze River Bridge were completed and opened to traffic. The opening of three Yangtze River bridges within one year has created the history of Jingzhou. In 2021, Honghu-Chibi Yangtze River Bridge was completed. So far, there have been six Yangtze River bridges in Jingzhou.

This year, the construction of Guanyinsi Yangtze River Bridge started. As the control project of the across-river channel of the Jiangling-Songzi section of Wuhan-Songzi Expressway, it will effectively promote the integrated development of Jingzhou Economic Development Zone, Jiangling County and Gongan County.

Starting construction about at the same time as Guanyinsi Yangtze River Bridge, Libu Yangtze River Bridge is a public across-river channel for the route change of Erenhot-Guangzhou Expressway and the south extension of Jingzhou-Jingmen High-speed Railway. The upper layer is an expressway, and the lower a railway and a city road. In addition, Jingzhou is planning to build Jianli-Huarong Yangtze River Highway-Railway Bridge and Yanka Yangtze River Bridge. All eight counties and cities and districts under the jurisdiction of Jingzhou are situated along the river. Before the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, there were insufficient across-river channels, with only two Yangtze River bridges in the 483-kilometer Yangtze River section. Today, the situation has changed completely as Jingzhou Yangtze River Bridge, Jingyue Yangtze River Bridge, Jingzhou Yangtze River Highway-Railway Bridge, Shishou Yangtze River Bridge, Honghu Jiayu Yangtze River Bridge and Honghu Chibi Yangtze River Bridge have been built and the number of the across-river passages in the city has increased to six. Jingzhou is now striving to create the pattern of 10 across-river passages by the end of the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, so as to lay a solid foundation for building a three-dimensional comprehensive transportation system.

As the main artery of the city, the Yangtze River bridges not only drive the development of the city, but also record the changes of the times. With the removal of the traffic bottleneck, the time has come for Jingzhou to realize across-river development, which has been written into the Opinions of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on Promoting the High-quality Development of Central China in the New Era. Across-river transportation is bound to lead the development of Jingzhou's across-river industries as well as the integrated and coordinated development of one river and two banks, opening up a new development pattern in the city.
