Project update: All steel bent caps placed for Jingmen-Jingzhou Railway
Updated: 2022-11-22 10:18:47

In the early morning of November 22, the construction was completed for the steel bent caps of the No. 2 Bridge on the Jingmen-Jingzhou Railway being built, where the new line crosses the Wuhan-Yichang Railway for the fifth time, after four hours of continuous work by a construction team of China Railway 12th Bureau while the site was blocked. This marked that all the gate piers with steel bent caps of the Jingmen-Jingzhou Railway were in place and all difficult sites became accessible. This created favorable conditions for subsequent girder erection and track laying.

The No. 2 Jianghan Canal Bridge on the railway is located in Jingzhou with a total length of 1,766 meters. The bridge is a key and difficult control work of the whole line as it intersects with the Wuhan-Yichang Railway. After all the five steel bent caps were placed, the subsequent construction, including girder erection and track laying, will be rolled out as scheduled. After the completion of the construction of this section, the Jingmen-Jingzhou Railway forms an included angle of 7.2 degrees with the existing Wuhan-Yichang Railway. The two lines almost run in a parallel or overlapping manner that minimizes the land use required for construction.

To ensure steady and accurate hoisting operations, the construction team defined strict operating procedures, strengthened the control over the construction process, enhanced the on-site construction organization, and finally ensured the safe and smooth completion of hoisting. Considering the heavy weight of bent caps to be hoisted and the required high bearing capacity of footing, the construction team laid a rectangular matrix of C30 concrete blocks. After the pile construction, they used a road roller for static rolling and laid a 0.2-meter-thick gravel layer and then 40 cm reinforced concrete rafts and subgrade plates. All these measures ensured that the subgrade remained "unbeatable" and the whole hoisting process was "stable, smooth, and accurate".

The Jingmen-Jingzhou Railway is an important part of the Huhehaote-Nanning Railway in China's railway network of "eight vertical and eight horizontal lines". The railway is 77.479 kilometers with a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour. After the Jingmen-Jingzhou Railway is built and in operation, passengers can move directly between Jingmen and Jingzhou with a trip time of 20 minutes, and all cities in Hubei are accessible via Railway. Therefore, it is of great significance for optimizing the railway network, smoothing mobility via the big triangle of railways in the province, and driving the revitalization of the Jianghan Plain and the rise of central China.
