The first Chu Culture Festival will be held in Jingzhou from March 18 to April 9. It is not only an important platform to promote exchanges and cooperation, but also an opportunity to facilitate the economic development of Jingzhou. Taking a view of the glorious history, how does Jingzhou give birth to the profound Chu culture with regional characteristics? What kind of spiritual wealth has been carried forward? Let’s take a look at the interpretation of Chu culture experts.

Jingzhou is the birthplace of Chu culture. Since the establishment of Jinan town, the capital of the State of Chu, in 689 BC, 20 generations of kings of Chu States have built their capital here for 411 years, creating a Chu culture comparable to the Athenian culture in ancient Greece. Jingzhou is the best representative of the achievements in eight areas of Chu culture, such as bronze casting, lacquerware production, silk embroidery, jade carving, Taoism doctrine, Zhuang and Sao literature, calligraphy and painting, music and dance.

Xu Wenwu, Executive Dean of the Chu Culture Research Institute of Yangtze University, said: "Jinan Town was the capital of the State of Chu during the Spring and Autumn Period. The site is still preserved in the former Jinan City, 5 kilometers north of Jingzhou. It was the largest capital city in southern China at that time. Among the existing historical and cultural relics in Jingzhou, Chu culture is the most brilliant.”

From the perspective of historical influence, the factors of Chu culture have been inherited from the pre-Qin times to this very day, and have benefited the later generations, leaving a cultural imprint on the people of Jingzhou in their daily lives.

Professor Li Zhengyu, Deputy Dean of the College of Humanities and New Media, Yangtze University, said: “The progressive spirit, the grand openness and inclusiveness, the blockbuster innovative sense, and the profound patriotic spirit implied in the Chu culture have already become an indispensable part of China’s fine traditional culture. It is the most precious historical and cultural heritage in Jingzhou, and is the most valuable, the most contemporary, the most core competitiveness and the most influential historical and cultural resources in the world. ”

In recent years, Jingzhou has engaged in digging up Chu cultural resources, building a spiritual home with cultural inheritance, accelerating the construction of demonstration zone for the protection and inheritance of Jingchu culture, and gathering a strong cultural force for the revitalization of Jingzhou. The Chu culture is lighting the over passing way of Jingzhou.

Xu Wenwu, executive dean of the Chu Culture Research Institute of Yangtze University, said: “The cultural festival is a good way to consolidate efforts from scholars, media, and every side of society, so that we can maximally mobilize resources from all aspects, and advance the research, protection, inheritance, and utilization of Chu culture to the highest level.”

The report of the 20th CPC National Congress pointed out that it is necessary to "build cultural confidence and strength and secure new successes in developing socialist culture.” Holding the first Chu Culture Festival is a key move to speed up the construction of demonstration zone for the protection and inheritance of Jingchu culture and build up a city brand of "Touring the Ancient City of Jingzhou and Enjoying the Charm of Jingchu Culture.” It is also a good opportunity to showcase Jingzhou's image and promote exchanges and cooperation. The Chu Culture Festival will further contribute to the construction of the high-quality development demonstration zone in Jianghan Plain and the establishment of the national pilot zone for building a new development paradigm in Hubei Province.
