Jingzhou Aviation Service Industrial Park: Aquatic Products Begin to Be Transported by Air
Updated: 2023-06-30 10:03:14

Located in Jiangling County Economic Development Zone, the Jingzhou Aviation Service Industrial Park has been in operation for nearly a month since its official launch on April 28. Recently, it was learned that the industrial park found out the method of keeping aquatic products alive and fresh. At present, aquatic products have begun to be transported by air in batches.

It was seen in Jingzhou Aviation Service Industrial Park that many staff members were working together to pack the crayfish into boxes in the packing area, where there was a clear division of labor for packaging, ice making, weighing, and recording. On the other side of the warehouse, trucks were also waiting for the loading of goods.

It was learned that Jiangyang Aquatic Products Market is an important distribution center for fresh seafood in East China, as well as the largest aquatic product wholesale market in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai where there is a large demand for fresh aquatic products. Due to higher packaging requirements of air transportation, the industrial park had been exploring the most appropriate way to keep aquatic products fresh and alive since its operation.

Zeng Bo, Deputy General Manager of Jingzhou Aviation Service Industrial Park, said, “At present, ice is used for both air and road transportation. We combine ice bottles and absorbent cotton for storage. However, crayfish transportation is a special case as crayfish is vulnerable to a living environment in excess of or in short of water. We also learned storage experience after four to five attempts. During the first two attempts, no crayfish survived. However, by the fifth attempt, we ensured a survival rate of 95%, which equaled that of road transportation.”

Zeng Bo told us that Jingzhou Aviation Service Industrial Park has two charter routes, one is to Beijing and the other is to Shanghai. In the near future, it will start to expand business into Beijing, and the transportation of aquatic products in Beijing is expected to opened within a month. In the short term, routes to Haikou, Sanya, and Kunming will also be developed as these places also have local distinctive agricultural and sideline products. Air transportation can be leveraged to eliminate geographical barriers and enable product complementarity across regions.
