Updated: 2023-07-05 15:57:29

On June 8, the “Qian Ying” Tour came to the Kaile Grand Theater. As an anti-corruption drama, “Qian Ying” produced by the Hubei Entertainment Group, and created and performed by the Changjiang People’s Art Theatre under the guidance of the Publicity Department of the CPC Hubei Provincial Committee, and the support of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Hubei Province. It vividly presented the legend of Qian Ying as a Party member, one of the founders of the discipline inspection and supervision systems in New China.

There were 800 Party members and officials at the show, including Wu Jin, Secretary of the CPC Jingzhou Municipal Committee, Zhou Xiangyang, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Jingzhou Municipal Committee, and other city government leaders such as Li Shuibin, Liu Huiwen, Liu Huiping, Zhou Changjun, Xia Guanghong, Luo Zhongping, Zhou Hanzhong, Yao Xifa, Li Gan, Han Xu, Chen Bin, Xu Xiaohong, and Wu Changjun. They watched the performance and took a lesson of anti-corruption.

Qian Ying was the first Minister of Supervision in New China and inspired the creation of Han Ying, the protagonist of the opera Red Guards on Honghu Lake. Using flashback and flash forward techniques, the drama presented the personal struggles of Qian Ying in different periods along the main thread of anti-corruption investigations; and it was a narrative of her career as the Minister of Supervision, during when she walked from villages to villages to understand what rural people truly thought, and leveraged the support of the Party and the masses to crack down bureaucratic excess and corruption with a strong sense of justice and responsibility, and against political pressure. She was revealed to us as a clean, honest, and upright person who remained loyal to the Party and committed to original aspirations, adopted a pragmatic approach to work, and showed favoritism to no one.

It was a solemn and august drama with remarkable stage design and the changing of background on the large multimedia screen. Across narration, the song Waves of the Honghu Lake repeated many times. The 2-hour drama boasted of a well-knit plot with touching and captivating performances and multiple climaxes. After reciting The Song of the Storm Petrel by Maxim Gorky, Qian Ying stood uprightly on the stage, looking around and then into the distance. Her singleness of heart was soul-stirring and won tumultuous applause from the audience.

Wang Jingli, Director of the Office of Jingzhou Commission for Discipline Inspection and the Jingzhou Supervision Commission, said, “What impressed me the most in the drama “Qian Ying” was her enduring tenacity. On the new journey in the new era, officials in the discipline inspection and supervision systems should learn from Qian Ying, uphold justice with iron will, remain true to original aspirations, remain committed to their responsibilities, and live up to their mission.”

Zhang Huijin, Deputy Director of Jingzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, said, “This is a journey to improve our morality and purify our hearts. As members of the cultural and tourism systems, we will further leverage our organizing and guiding roles to create an array of anti-corruption literary works, and further cater them to inspiring, motivating, and guiding people.”

Zhu Feng, Head of the Disciplinary Inspection and Supervision Team of Jingzhou Commission for Discipline Inspection and Jingzhou Supervision Commission in the Peoples Court of Jingzhou, said, “This drama is an arresting lesson that forewarns us against formalism, bureaucratism, hedonism and extravagance. As officials in the discipline inspection and supervision systems, we will uphold traditions of the Party, pass down our revolution spirit, and become loyal, clean and responsible mainstays who are ready to brave challenges.”
