Honghu is where the CPC centraloffice was located during the second national revolutionary war, one of thenation's eight revolutionary bases, and it is left with rich red-revolutiontourism resources. Thereare 39 national major cultural relic protection units, 3 provincial majorcultural relic protection units, 107 city major cultural relic protection units,forming an education network to educate the people on patriotism andrevolutionary tradition.

The Honghu Qujiawan Xiang'exi Revolutionary Base ClusterSite is granted the "Province 10 Patriotism Education Model Bases",and granted by the National Cultural Relics Bureau as "National ExcellentPatriotism Education Model Base". According tostatistics, hundreds of thousands of overseas people, young students and formerred-army leaders came to Honghu for reverence visit, research and memorial. Itis listed as the ethical education base for more than 100 schools for theirrevolutionary tradition reverence. In February 2003, Hubei NationalDefense Education Base was set up in Qujiawan. In 2005, the Municipal People's Governmentdeclared the capital of former Xiang'exi revolutionary base as a nationalred-revolutionary tourism development program.
