It is a national historic and cultural town,national red-revolutionary scenic area, national major culturalrelicprotection unit, and national patriotism education base. It is located in a region 30 km north of Jianli County,Jingzhou, Hubei province, with Yuegao Expressway passing from the east, and onthe side of Jianhan, Jianxian and Jianqian bus route. It is a scenic area with the integration of ancient architecture andred-revolutionary tourismresources.Zhoulaozui Town prospers because it is the joint spot of five streamswith flourishing ferries, a town over one thousand meters long with the name of "a holyplace of five dragons". The town streets were basically formed in Ming Dynasty, and prospered in Qing Dynasty. Allbuildings are brick-wood multi-sector structures with small black-tile roof,and walls decorated with pillar heads. Between each sector, there arecourtyard, Tiandou and wing rooms. It is a Jianghan unique architecture stylewith traditional and classic simplicity. It was the capitalof Xiang'exi revolutionary base, the center of Xiang'exi provincial politics,economy, military and education between 1930 and 1932. There are 48major revolutionary sites, including the former residences of proletarianrevolutionists like He Long, Zhou Yiqun, Deng Zhongxia, Liu Zhixun, Wan Tao,Duan Dechang, Cui Qi, and Xie Juezhai, and Xiang'exi Province Committee,Xiang'exi Soviet Government, Xiang'exi Military Committee, Headquarters of RedArmy Second Legion, Honghu Military and Political School, etc. Martyr LiuZhixun Tomb Yard is located in the north of the town, a yard densely planted with pine and cypress trees.
